Weekly Check In: Lancaster Continues to be the Coolest

I spent this past weekend in Lancaster for my friend’s wedding. Once again, I was left with the feeling that Lancaster is the unsung, coolest city in Pennsylvania, and I really shit the bed when I decided to move away. The rehearsal dinner was at 6:30 on Friday. I arrived in Lancaster circa 2:00, because

Lancaster City is Cool

I’m going to make the bold statement that at the moment, Lancaster is 100% the coolest city in Pennsylvania…that no one’s ever heard of. Hear me out.  Whenever I tell people I used to live in Lancaster, the most common reaction still is to ask if I lived by the Amish. Most people are surprised

Eating and Drinking Your Way Through Lancaster Part 27

At this point I’ve written several posts specifically about how to eat and drink your way to obesity in Lancaster, and this post is going to be no different. There really is plenty to do besides eat and drink in Lancaster, however it is home to some very good food, very good beer, and it seems

A Boozy Return to Lancaster

After relocating back to my native NEPA last September, I’ve basically been plotting my return to Lancaster. I had several botched attempts, but just one week ago finally made it back. I was super psyched, and even started putting together this post a week before I was set to go, finding links of the new

Athletics and Booze

If you’ve ever read this blog before, you probably know that my perfect weekend includes a combination of some sort of quasi-athletic activity accompanied by some post activity pub crawling. You know what’s even better? When the two activities are combined, which is why I think I was drawn to the idea of pedicycles from

10 Things I’ll Miss About Living in Lancaster

I went through some pretty big life-changes this past summer, namely, in that after five years of teaching high school English at Manheim Central High School in Lancaster County, I’ve decided to resign. The decision felt spur of the moment, and probably wasn’t as meticulously planned as I would have liked (as in, maybe I

Soccer in PA

I’m sitting here in my parents living room in good old Upper Browndale Pennsylvania. It’s 9AM (it’s also Thursday, June 26th-rest assured I won’t get this published till sometime in July). I’m making eggs and drinking a Guinness  and trying to figure out what red, white and blue outfit I should be wearing to Scranton to watch the

100 Things to do in Pennsyvlania (Part II)

Last year around this time I decided to “celebrate” my 100th blog post by coming up with a list of “100 Things to do in Pennsylvania.” It ended up being much easier than I anticipated, which is good considering that one of my main purposes of my site is to celebrate and explore all the things do within our own

Tellus 360: Lancaster’s “New” Gathering Spot

Downtown Lancaster is a lovely place to walk around (sidenote: when did I start using the word “lovely” to describe things?). There’s Central Market, plenty of shops and restaurants and  enough bars to some damage. If you’re wandering down East King street, just past the Marriott, you’ll encounter Tellus 360, a sprawling storefront complex that

The Saga of Duffy’s Cut & Tellus 360

If you’re driving along King Road near Malvern PA, a small town approximately 30 miles west of Philadelphia in the heart of Pennsylvania’s mainline, you’ll come across an innocuous historical marker at where King intersects Sugartown Road.  The marker tells the tale of Duffy’s Cut Mass grave, a black mark in Pennsylvania’s history that occurred 181 years ago.
